Tracey Emin Discusses "The Shop'
Tracey Emin
Discusses 'The Shop'
- At Tate Modern Tue 08 Dec 2009
On tuesday night I went to a discussion by Tracey Emin about her early work involving 'The Shop'.
It was at Tate Modern, she came late after being at the GQ christmas party, she was openly a little drunk, she began to cry, and she was brilliant.
I have always been interested in Tracey Emin, there's no denying she's an interesting character. A fiery YBA who loves to drink, party and make frank open honest art.
Something that really stuck with me after the talk was her generosity, she naturally gives as much of herself as she can to any situation. Investing herself in this way, underpins, stocks, fills and slightly overflows any project she's involved in, resulting in fascinating experiences and important work. You walk away knowing that Emin would never be one of those people to leave before the party's over or the coffee shop shuts.

Three recent sketches, lately I have really loved moving back into using pencil rather than felt-tip or pen. I think this is because of pencil's bending qualities. I find drawings in pencil are emotional and suggest more subtle feelings. Pen & felt-tip are clear, fresh, modern and confident.
Its good to have a balance of the two areas.
Ps. I really like the blending on the middle one.

Ps. She reads my blog as well (she's got good taste!)

Tonight, after seeing Janet Street Porter on Channel 4's The F Word, I remembered how wonderful I think she is.
I have her book "Life's Too F***ing Short" and I say it's a book EVERYONE should own, its one of those you will benefit from reading before a job interview, date, break-up... just about anything!
Anyway have a look through her site its pretty interesting (I like the "look" of it too) AND... I think Damien Hurst drew the portrait of her on the homepage!

"In a bungalow in Peacehaven, by the east Sussex seaside, a 72-year-old man and his 62-year-old wife are planning their future... upon so-called "death", a team of experts must rush to their sides, pump out their blood and fill them with antifreeze."

The Nation's Favourite School Dinner!
Is... A Roast Dinner!
According to the results of an online poll released this week, the nation's favourite school dinner is a roast dinner followed by sponge pudding with custard. Nice to know its not pizza and chips!

This was the first bit of drawing/art/illustration... ANYTHING, that I did after moving to London for University. Thought I'd post it up after one of my flatmates (lucy) asked about it earlier on.
